I long for a day when women pastors will simply be known as “pastor.” In some sectors of Christianity, this is already true. But in many places, even ones that are officially supportive of female pastors, it is still a rarity.
So I’ve created a directory of churches where the primary leader (senior pastor, lead pastor, solo pastor, etc.) is a woman. That doesn’t devalue the ministry or importance of many women and men that serve as staff pastors. But I sense that some people would really prefer to have a woman in the senior pastoral role and the directory can help them find such a church. I also think this list will be encouraging to those for whom women in ministry is an important issue but is not affirmed where they are.

Here are the guidelines: If you know of a church where a woman is the senior/primary leader, please add it to the comments with four bits of information. 1. The name of the church. 2. The denominational affiliation if known and if not obvious from the name. 3. The name of the church’s city and state. 4. A link to some online presence for the church– webpage (preferred), Facebook page, or Twitter account. (Optional #5: link to video or audio download, streaming, or podcasting of sermons.) Submit this information in the comments below and every few weeks I will add them to the page and delete them from the comments.
I won’t vouch for any of these churches, their leaders, or their doctrine and practice. I only ask that churches only be submitted that self-identify as Christian churches. Users of the list can discern for themselves about the doctrine, polity, and practice of the church.

This is a small fraction of the ELCA women senior and/or solo pastors. I got this list by going to the ELCA page and from their to the “find a person” page (http://www.elca.org/tools/FindAPerson), leaving the “keyword” blank and setting the “category” dropdown to “ordained minister,” which gave me a list of all the ordained ministers in the ELCA. I then clicked on every obvious female name I saw, and copied-pasted the names of their churches when they were “senior pastor” or the only listed pastor. I’m sure I missed some; with names like “Terry” that could go either way, I didn’t bother to check, nor did I bother to check the gender of people with non-obvious names. This is the results from the first twenty pages, and I didn’t even finish the “A” names before giving up.
I’m going to leave this comment up for the sake of the instructions of finding other ELCA churches!

The United Methodist Church uses Certified Lay Speakers to preach at small rural churches that cannot afford to pay a ppastor. Most are women. A CLS receives as much training as a Local Pastor.
